Meet Sofia and Mikael
The people behind SimpleSail
We're the couple behind SimpleSail.
Mikael is Danish and works in shipping and maritime logistics. Sofia is Greek and a self-employed midwife. We've been together for more than 20 years — six years in Denmark and now over 15 years in Athens. We have two teenagers at home.
We started sailing when our children were 6 and 4. It wasn't something we grew up with. We started as ordinary parents trying something new.
Over the past 10+ years, we've personally booked and sailed many boats together with family and friends. We always sail with a skipper. We've had amazing trips. We've had perfectly ordinary trips. And we've had trips where small practical details made a big difference.
That experience is the foundation of what we do today.
Why SimpleSail
Many of our friends thought sailing holidays were only for experienced sailors. That it was far more expensive than it actually is. That you had to know how to do everything yourself. Others simply didn't know where to start — which region, which boat, which week.
At the same time, we saw that many charter agencies send long lists of boats without really asking the right questions. Or recommend the boats that give them the biggest commission.
We want to do this differently.
How we work
We use AI to narrow down the options and ask the right first questions. But every recommendation is reviewed personally by us.
We earn commission from the boat operators, and you should know that. Our commission is fixed — we have no reason to push you toward one particular boat.
We're also happy to help with hotels, transport, provisioning, and a group video call with your party before departure. Just ask.
The goal is simple: more people having a good first sailing trip.
