Regions & boats — the honest version.
Two regions, two boat types, four months that matter. Here is how we think about each decision before we recommend anything.
Regions
Ionian
Ionian
Gentle, green, family-first.
Lefkas, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Meganisi. Short distances between bays, sheltered water, mild afternoon breeze. Default recommendation for first-time families and anyone unsure about seasickness.
Best for: Families, first-timers, low wind tolerance, late June to early September.
Tradeoff: Less whitewashed postcard Greece. More forested, softer, quieter.
Aegean
Aegean
Postcard Greece, with real wind.
Cyclades, Saronic, Dodecanese. Whitewashed villages, dramatic light, busy quays. Beautiful, but stronger conditions.
Best for: Experienced sailors, couples, friends, shoulder months.
Tradeoff: Meltemi wind in July and August can mean 25–35 knots for days. Not relaxing for a first family week. The Saronic is a calmer way in.
